Newcastle dealt new Joao Pedro blow – ‘everybody knows….’
Newcastle United tried to sign Joao Pedro before his 2023 switch to Brighton but could finally get their man this summer.
Pedro is towards the top of the Magpies’ shortlist as they look to bring in cover and competition for star man Alexander Isak.
However, Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (10 June) that Brighton are looking for bids of £50-60million if they are to sell the Brazil international striker.
The ex-Watford man hit 10 goals and notched seven assists in 30 games across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has made a worrying admission on Newcastle‘s interest in Pedro.

‘Brighton to stand firm as Newcastle chase Pedro’, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Brighton “don’t need to sell” and are in a “very strong negotiating position”.
In a potential further blow for Newcastle, Chelsea are now reportedly showing interest in Pedro, 23, despite already signing Liam Delap this summer.
Wyness claimed “everyone knows” Brighton are tough to push around in the transfer market.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think Brighton are going to be firm on their asking price.
“Brighton are in a very strong negotiating position. They’ve got the cash. Everybody knows that they’re a good club that can sell and they’re prepared to sell, but they don’t need to sell.
“They always get top dollar and they’ve done very well. And David Weir, my ex-captain at Everton, has done a superb job there as sporting director recently at Brighton. So tip my hat to him in the way he’s handled that.
“I don’t believe there is a Saudi tax for Newcastle now, because of PSR. But I do believe that people will want full value from Newcastle at the very least.
“I think they’re going to be sticking somewhere like the £50-60million mark – that’s what Brighton will want.”

Liverpool told £75m Gordon offer will be accepted
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (13 June) that Liverpool have been told it would take an offer of £75-80million to sign Anthony Gordon.
Newcastle remain determined to keep hold of their star man, and it would take a “huge” fee to persuade them to sell.
Liverpool were keen on a deal for Gordon last summer (2024) amid a backdrop of financial issues at St James’ Park.
