Newcastle, Everton and Crystal Palace race to sign Kasey McAteer – sources

Newcastle, Everton and Crystal Palace are monitoring the situation of Kasey McAteer at Leicester City this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

McAteer, 22, is set to enter the final year of his contract at the King Power, with no new deal on the table as things stand.

All three Premier League outfits are racing to sign the winger and bolster their forward options ahead of the 2024-25 season.

McAteer made 23 appearances for Leicester, with 13 starts, in their Championship title-winning season, scoring six goals.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider that Leicester are set to lose multiple key players including McAteer as they look to balance the books this summer.

Newcastle, Everton and Crystal Palace want Kasey McAteer

Leicester were charged with breaching profit and sustainability rules and now face a points deduction upon their promotion to the Premier League.

Homegrown stars such as McAteer will be at the forefront of their sales this summer due to the higher price tags they can generate.

Having joined the club’s academy at age eight, any exit deal for the winger would represent pure profit on the balance sheets at the King Power.

All three Premier League outfits could look to capitalise on the situation by making an early bid.

Crystal Palace in particular have a strong history of recruiting from the Championship as seen with the development of Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Adam Wharton in recent years.

Everton have also been hit by points deduction as a result of PSR breaches this season, with the financial situation at Goodison Park precarious.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are facing similar financial issues and may have to sell players to reinvest this summer, as Football Insider revealed, although interest in McAteer from both clubs remains strong.

In other news, Aston Villa are set to open talks to re-sign Ross Barkley.
