By Derek Smithson
Newcastle are interested in signing Watford youngster Dion Pereira, according to a report.
The Evening Standard claim that the Magpies are keen on the 18-year-old sensation that has made his breakthrough into the Hornets first team this season.
It is understood that Brighton and West Ham are also keen on the winger and it could take a “small fee” to prize him away from Vicarage Road.
The report details that Watford have offered Pereira his first professional contract, but he is currently assessing his options ahead of next season.
Pereira is a highly rated teenager at Watford and made two senior appearances for them during the back-end of the Premier League season, with substitute roles against Leicester and Manchester City.

The right winger was recently named their young player of the year and has enjoyed a meteoric rise through their academy.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are looking to raid their Premier League rivals for the talented youngster following their return to the top flight.
The north-east club are set to be in for a busy summer window as they bolster their squad and Pereira is a sign that they are considering young stars.
Football Insider verdict:
Newcastle are expected to bring in proven players in the summer to help them compete in the top flight and showed last year they will receive the financial backing. However, the fans will be keen for youth to also remain important at St James’ Park and Watford’s upcoming star could be someone for the future. The 18-year-old has been introduced to the senior set-up at the back-end of this campaign and it’s not yet known whether he will feature in the plans of Marco Silva, who was appointed Watford manager on Saturday. Newcastle fans will be more concerned about potential big-money deals they may pursue in the summer, but keeping a good chain of youngsters coming through is also important.
In other Newcastle transfer news, they are set to axe Vurnon Anita in the summer when his contract expires.
