Newcastle United could face difficulty finding buyers for Nick Woltemade or Yoane Wissa in the summer transfer window.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Wissa could remain at the club for another season.

Newcastle spent over £100million to bring both Woltemade and Wissa to St James’ Park last summer following the departure of Alexander Isak.

The pair have scored just eight league goals between them this season, and Wissa’s campaign has been disrupted by injuries.

Newcastle’s summer transfer business is expected to include attacking additions, which could be funded by the sale of either Woltemade or Wissa.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Newcastle did not spend their money wisely last summer.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Woltemade could return to Germany, if he was to leave the club.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Now, we’ve seen a lot of clubs who’ve done big transfers and I’m thinking of West Ham and Declan Rice. I’m thinking of Spurs going back to Gareth Bale when the money hasn’t been spent wisely, and it’s had longer term effects.

“And in Newcastle, they’re going to have to either find a way to work out what to do. I think they may stick with Wissa for another season. I think Woltemade could be the one that could be out the door if there’s a market for him back in Germany, which I think there may be.

“That’s the bigger chance to me because the biggest issue will be on the back of, you know, for both of them on the back of the poor season, what is their market valuation and who will want them.”

Keith Wyness reveals Lewis Hall transfer stance

Wyness also told Football Insider that he believes left-back Lewis Hall wants to stay at Newcastle despite interest from other Premier League clubs.

The 21-year-old has proved to be one of Newcastle’s most consistent players this season, with Chelsea keen on re-signing the player they sold in 2024.

Hall’s value could increase further if he was to be included in England’s World Cup squad, with Thomas Tuchel having selected him for their upcoming friendly matches.
