Newcastle fans urge Benitez to axe 27-year-old for Brighton title clash
By Will Butcher
Newcastle fans have revealed their desire on Twitter to see Rafa Benitez drop midfielder Jack Colback ahead of Tuesday night’s top-of-the-table clash against Brighton.
Colback, 27, has been in poor form of late in the middle of the park, offering little during the 2-2 draw against Bristol City before being withdrawn just before the hour mark.
The former Sunderland midfielder has come under huge criticism from sections of the St James’ Park crowd, with many frustrated at the flame-haired midfielder’s distribution.
Newcastle’s number four was taken off for Mohamed Diame on Saturday, and Benitez could be tempted to make that change from the start against automatic promotion rivals Brighton.
Toon fans were unwavering in their opinion of Colback on Twitter, with many claiming that starting Colback could run the risk of Newcastle losing to Chris Hughton’s Seagulls.

I'd go murphy up top having seen his record against brighton. Atsu has to play for the counter attack pace. Diame in for colback

rafa needs to give a wake up call to some players i would start Murphy at Brighton and Anita in place of colback

Surely Dummett, Mitrovic, Colback & Perez need dropping Tuesday. They're weakening the team in a hugely concerning way.

I would stick him in DM sitting in front of the back 4 and drop Colback. Quick, good defender and will look for the forward pass.

Colback has started the Toon’s last four matches in the middle of the park, as he continues to fill in for injured summer signing Isaac Hayden.
If Colback is axed from Benitez’s starting line-up, Mohamed Diame or Vurnon Anita are the obvious candidates to replace him from the off.
Newcastle will be hoping to end a sticky patch of form that has seen them win just three times in their last six games, by beating Brighton and moving to the top of the Championship table.
