'Out the first door please' - Newcastle fans react to display of 27-year-old against Cardiff

By Harry Sykes

Newcastle fans took to Twitter to deliver mixed verdicts to the performance of central midfielder Jack Colback in their 2-0 Championship win against Cardiff on Friday night.

Goals from Christian Atsu and Isaac Hayden at the Cardiff City Stadium kept alive the Magpies’ slim hopes of winning the Championship title.

The victory was the second in four days for Rafael Benitez’s side and lifted them to within a point of leaders Brighton, who have a game in hand.

One talking point afterwards was the display of Colback, who has been strongly criticised by Newcastle fans during what has been a successful season.

The Sunderland academy product played 73 minutes of the clash against Cardiff before he was replaced by Jonjo Shelvey.

Supporters delivered mixed appraisals of the 27-year-old’s display, with some claiming he was far more effective than usual while others stated that it was further proof of why he must be sold this summer.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Colback has made 33 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle this season, starting 23 of the team’s 45 Championship fixtures.

He has shared central midfield duties with Jonjo Shelvey and Hayden, his partner against Cardiff, for most of this season.

In other Newcastle United transfer news, a brilliant text about Moussa Sissoko has been circulated among the club’s staff after Wednesday’s HMRC raid.
