Newcastle fans expect lengthy Anthony Gordon absence after confirmed news
Newcastle United are looking to secure a Champions League position off the back of their EFL Cup victory to round out an excellent season – but they will be without one of their key players for the foreseeable future.
The Magpies won their first piece of silverware since the 1955 FA Cup when they defeated Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley Stadium, and after Chelsea and Man City’s Premier League results went in their favour, Eddie Howe’s side have been left with a perfect opportunity to return to the Champions League.
Newcastle’s fate is in their own hands regarding how they finish the season as they will move into fourth place ahead of City and Chelsea if they can win their game in hand on the Premier League giants.
The Magpies are looking to end the season in style by securing a return to Europe’s elite competition, in what would prove to be another huge achievement for Howe’s men.
However, Newcastle supporters were left worried about the future of Anthony Gordon after England’s recent 2-0 win against Albania as Thomas Tuchel confirmed he was in pain.

Anthony Gordon has been injured on international duty
Those worries have now been confirmed as England have announced that the Newcastle winger has withdrawn from the current squad due to injury.
The 24-year-old sustained an issue to his hip against Albania and he will now not play a part in the upcoming game against Latvia on Monday (24 March).

Gordon has returned to Newcastle for further evaluation as an official diagnosis and time period for his absence will be determined by the club medical team.

Newcastle fans are frustrated with the timing of this injury
Newcastle have been without Gordon for the past couple of games due to suspension, as he had to watch on from the sidelines in the EFL Cup final.
Gordon was always scheduled to miss Newcastle’s next match against Brentford due to suspension, but fans admitted they’re “gutted” about the injury and the possibility of him being unavailable for a longer stretch.
