Newcastle fans expect ‘massive’ Joe Willock twist after what they saw

Newcastle United fans are expecting Joe Willock to play a “massive” part in Eddie Howe’s team this season after his performance v Urawa Red Diamonds.

The Magpies ran out 4-1 winners in the opening game of their pre-season tour of Japan, with Jacob Murphy, Lewis Hall and Alexander Isak on the scoresheet.

Willock played an important role in the first two goals, setting up Isak for the first before bursting through midfield and sliding Murphy in for the second.

The midfielder missed a large spell of last season with injury issues, and his return to the side has come as a welcome boost ahead of the new season.

His performance in Japan was labelled “fantastic” as fans are beginning to get excited about Willock’s potential impact this season.

Newcastle United fans stunned by Joe Willock v Urawa Red Diamonds

Since making the move from Arsenal, Willock has made 102 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 15 goals and six assists as he continues to progress in each game.

After a season in which he missed 38 games through injury, his place in Howe’s side seems not to have changed, with his pre-season form securing his place.

With the season set to begin in just over two weeks, Newcastle fans have pointed to Willock as a source of inspiration amid a lack of transfer activity.

In other news, Southampton have readied a bid to sign a Norwich City star.
