Newcastle fans fume at confirmed Marc Guehi news via Sky
Newcastle United fans have been left raging after Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish confirmed they had not met the Eagles’ asking price for Marc Guehi.
Newcastle have named Guehi as their number-one target before the transfer window closes later this month, but appear to be no closer to reaching an agreement.
Parish’s bullish comments about the deal suggest it is far further away than many expected at this stage, and concerns are beginning to grow.
Palace’s chairman and co-owner spoke at the Premier League’s launch event on 13 August where he explained: “If you want a superstar player, you’ve got to pay superstar money.
“We’re nowhere near the point where we need to make a decision. We love having him at the club, and we want to keep him at the club.
“So if somebody wants to make that otherwise, they’ve got to make it really difficult for us. At the moment, that’s not the situation we’re in.”
Newcastle have now had three bids for Guehi turned down by Palace as they have not met the asking price, leaving fans fuming.

Doubts over Guehi’s move had already started to grow due to the defender’s involvement in Palace’s final pre-season friendly game on 11 August.
The Magpies are searching for a new centre-back this summer to strengthen Eddie Howe’s defensive unit amid several injury blows.
However, the lack of movement has inspired more frustration than optimism among the fans.
Some supporters expressed their anger towards Parish for being so outspoken about the deal and turning down multiple offers.
However, others were frustrated with their own owners for failing to reach Palace’s asking price despite lengthy negotiations and talks between the two clubs.
