Newcastle fans rage after Liverpool transfer news – ‘We’ll regret this’

Newcastle United fans have been left raging after Liverpool made progress in their move to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Reports claimed the Reds have agreed personal terms with the Valencia goalkeeper, and his agent is now in Spain for talks with both clubs.

Newcastle had been interested in his signature earlier in the window, but stepped away from their advances as he wanted to be the first-choice ahead of Nick Pope.

However, fans are now questioning whether the club should have made the deal anyway given Pope’s age and recent injury record.

At 32 years old, there have been questions about how long the England goalkeeper can remain Newcastle’s undisputed number one, but they now look to have been pipped to the signing of a possible replacement.

Instead, the Magpies completed the signing of second and third-choice goalkeepers Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy, while Pope remains the first choice.

Mamardashvili starred for Georgia at Euro 2024 as he helped his country reach their first-ever knockout stage of a major international tournament.

His performances gathered interest from some of Europe’s elite clubs, and at just 23 years old, is tipped to become one of the best in the world in his position for the next ten years.

After the reports about his move to Liverpool surfaced on social media, Newcastle fans insisted they should have been in the running for his signature.

Many insisted they will regret letting a player of his quality move to a Premier League rival.
