Newcastle United fans have taken to social media to rave over the performance of midfield maestro Jonjo Shelvey in the club’s clash against Arsenal.

The Magpies welcomed the Gunners to St James’ Park off the back of three successive victories over Southampton, Huddersfield Town and Leicester City, with manager Rafael Benitez naming an unchanged side from the win over the Foxes last weekend.

However, it was Arsene Wenger’s men, who travelled to Tyneside after a gruelling trip to CSKA Moscow in midweek, who drew first blood, Alexandre Lacazette sliding in to finish a swift counter attack driven by the pace of Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang.

The lead lasted for just 15 minutes though, with DeAndre Yedlin drilling a cross full of pace into the Arsenal box for Ayoze Perez to continue his own personal hot streak with his third goal in as many games, sending both sides into half time level at 1-1.

Despite the Spaniard’s equaliser, it was the display of Shelvey which caught the Newcastle faithful’s eye, impressing once again with his range of passing which posed a constant threat to the Gunners’ defence, and they turned to Twitter to voice their delight.
