'Can't hit a barn door' – Newcastle fans react on Twitter to Mitrovic goal for Serbia

By Danny Wright

Newcastle fans have taken to social media to react to Aleksandar Mitrovic scoring while on international duty with Serbia.

The 22-year-old found the back of the net with a belter from the egde of the box to give his nation the lead against Georgia in a 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Southampton’s Dusan Tadic and Mijat Gacinovic grabbed the other two goals in a 3-1 victory that saw them take pole position in group D after the Republic of Ireland failed to beat Wales.

Mitrovic’s 64th minute goal was his fourth goal in his last three matches for Serbia, although he’s failed to get on the score sheet for Newcastle since a 1-0 win against Wolves in mid-February.

There have been eight matches since that win at Molineux and Mitro’s lack of form has seen him completely axed from Rafa Benitez’s matchday squad on two occasions.

Fans, however, remain sceptical that he will repeat his international form at club level.

Here is a selection of tweets from the Toon Army about Mitrovic:
