Newcastle fans are livid on Twitter after Jack Colback was in woeful form during the Toon’s 1-0 loss to Blackburn on Monday.

The 27-year-old continued in replacing suspended midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, who is currently sidelined with a five-match suspension after racially abusing Wolves midfielder Romain Saiss.

Newcastle’s number four misplaced a number of passes throughout the match and gave away the all-important free-kick that saw Charlie Mulgrew secure three points.

The Scotland international’s goal midway through the second half saw Blackburn do the double over Rafa Benitez’s promotion-chasing side, in what is a huge blow to the Toon’s promotion hopes.

Newcastle fans were disgusted on Twitter, as the former Sunderland midfielder failed to reach the lofty expectations set by Shelvey’s sparkling performances this season.

Colback’s performance against Blackburn was summed up by being hauled off the pitch by Benitez just moments after giving away the match-winning free-kick midway through the second half.

Since his free transfer in the summer of 2014, Colback has made 85 league and cup appearances for the Toon with 17 of those coming this season.

In other Newcastle news, Championship top scorer Dwight Gayle believes his side must do this in order to gain automatic promotion to the Premier League.
