'Got be be a wind up' - Newcastle fans in disbelief at reported interest in PL 30-yr-old

By Danny Wright

Newcastle fans have been left in a fit of rage after being reportedly linked with a late summer raid of Premier League rivals Crystal Palace for goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.

Lee Ryder, chief sports writer of the Newcastle Chronicle, reported on his personal Twitter account on Monday that Rafa Benitez’s search for a new shot-stopper has lead him to pursue Hennessey, 30, with just days left of the summer transfer window.

It is understood that the Magpies have “considered” a move for the 68-times Wales international despite still having Tim Krul, Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot on the books at St. James’ Park after failing to sell any of them this summer.

Newcastle have been linked with a vast array of goalkeepers since last season ended but have so far been unable to strengthen that area of the squad.

Most of the Toon Army are in the belief that the three ‘keepers already on Tyneside, as well as youngster Freddie Woodman, are all better options than Hennessey and have taken to Twitter to rage about the club’s decision to keep tabs on the Welshman.

A number of fans have also reacted in disbelief of the news, with one saying it has “got to be a wind up”.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Hennessey has started all three of Palace’s opening fixtures in the Premier League but has already shipped six goals with his side losing on every occasion.

In other Newcastle news, after missing the match with West Ham on Saturday, this attacker has agreed terms with a top-flight club.
