Newcastle United supporters have taken to social media to express their delight after a report revealed that international financier Amanda Staveley has officially made a takeover bid.

Sky News reports that the 44-year-old’s PCP Capital Partners have submitted a offer worth around £300million to Mike Ashley last week to buy the Tyneside club.

The report claims that those close to the process have revealed that the next step would be to award the financier “a period of exclusivity within which to negotiate a deal.”

The Toon Army were quick to react on social media to the news and the majority of them were delighted to hear that Staveley could soon be taking the reigns on Tyneside.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Current owner Ashley has been a very unpopular figure at St James’ Park as he has overseen two relegations from the Premier League in just over a decade.

Manager Rafa Benitez has also had problems with Ashley since his arrival to the club with regards to the transfer policy.

Newcastle fans will be hopeful that Staveley has the ambition to steer the club into genuine contenders once again for the important trophies.
