'Enjoy the Championship' - Newcastle fans mock Sunderland after PL relegation

By Danny Wright

Newcastle fans have wasted no time in mocking Sunderland after their Premier League relegation was confirmed on Saturday.

David Moyes’ side fell to a 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth thanks to Joshua King’s goal, while Hull held on to earn a point in a goalless draw with Southampton.

Hull goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic saved a late Dusan Tadic penalty to hang on to a crucial point which consigned Sunderland to Championship football next season.

The Black Cats are now 13 points away from safety, which cannot be reached with four games to play.

Newcastle secured their return to the top-flight on Monday and will now replace their fierce local rivals for the 2017-18 campaign.

It’s not a surprise that the Toon Army were delighted with the news and here is a selection of their tweets:

Sunderland’s final four games see them play against relegation-threatened duo Hull and Swansea in their next two games before back-to-back trips to London to face Arsenal and Chelsea.

Newcastle have one game to play this season and are one point behind Championship leaders Brighton.

Chris Hughton’s side welcome Bristol City to the AMEX on Saturday night and can end the Magpies’ title bid with a victory.

Anything less than a win would see the title-race go down to the final game of the campaign where Newcastle have a home clash with Barnsley while Brighton travel to Aston Villa.

In other Newcastle news, Rob Elliot sent a message to the Toon Army after Friday’s win against Cardiff.
