Newcastle fans react to Anthony Gordon transfer update: ‘I’m driving him to Liverpool’

Newcastle fans have reacted in unison and have called for the club to sell Anthony Gordon following a fresh update on his future.

The Magpies have made a slow start to the summer transfer window, missing out on several top targets.

Liam Delap and Joao Pedro both turned down a move to St James’ Park in favour of joining Chelsea, while Bryan Mbeumo is pushing for a switch to Manchester United instead.

However, the club have now identified an alternative option and Newcastle are closing in on a deal to sign Anthony Elanga.

With incomings expected, outgoings could follow, and Elanga’s likely arrival may open the door for Gordon to leave the club.

Liverpool and Arsenal have both maintained a long-standing interest in the winger, but it’s the latest update around Gordon’s future that has sparked a reaction among Newcastle fans, with many now calling for the club to cash in.

Liverpool plan late summer move for Anthony Gordon

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 10 July that Liverpool are plotting a late summer move for Gordon in the transfer window.

It’s understood Newcastle value the winger at £100 million as Gordon signed a new long-term contract back in October until 2030.

While the Magpies are under no immediate pressure to sell, a significant offer could force the club into a difficult decision over the coming weeks.

Gordon finished the season as more of a rotational option under Eddie Howe, with Harvey Barnes starting the final 11 matches.

However, despite limited game time towards the end of the campaign, the England international still managed nine goals and seven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.

Newcastle fans urge club to sell Anthony Gordon amid Liverpool update

With Luis Diaz’s future at Liverpool uncertain, the Reds could reignite their interest in Gordon, which is an interest that dates back to last summer.

Football Insider reported that Liverpool are bracing for offers for Diaz, with both Barcelona and Bayern Munich monitoring his situation.

Meanwhile, Gordon was close to a return to Merseyside last year, but Liverpool opted to place their faith in Diaz and Cody Gakpo instead.

Now, with news of a potential bid and Newcastle’s £100million valuation, many fans are calling on the club to accept if the price is met.

One supporter wrote: “I would drive him down there myself for 100 million” while another added: “I like Gordon, but I’d bite their hands off for £100m.”
