'Want to buy his boots', 'They mad' - Newcastle fans in bits after shock summer transfer claim

Newcastle United fans have been left in bits on social media after reading the shock claim that West Ham are preparing an eight-figure bid to capture the signing of Jamaal Lascelles this summer.

The Sun have reported on their website that the Hammers have identified the Magpies’ centre back and captain as one of their top targets come the end of the season and are preparing to splash out £15million on securing his services.

Lascelles, who was handed the captain’s armband by manager Rafael Benitez at the start of the 2016/17 campaign in the Championship, has established himself as one of the club’s most important players and characters, starting 24 of the 30 Premier League games this season.

Newcastle fans were less than welcoming of the Sun’s claims, suggesting on Twitter that the Irons were well off in their valuation, and laughing off the suggestion that he would want to move to a club that were in a worse state than the Magpies.

Newcastle currently sit 13th in the Premier League table, just two points and four places off the Hammers, who themselves are balancing just above the drop zone, with Southampton one spot and two points below them in 18th.

In other Newcastle United news, the club are on the verge of a triple boost and could have it practically sealed in three weeks.
