'If Carlsberg did weekends' - Newcastle fans react on Twitter to Brighton defeat

By Matt Farr

Championship leaders Brighton were defeated 1-0 by Bristol City on Saturday – and Newcastle fans were delighted.

Brighton had an opportunity to clinch the title with a win at the Amex Stadium, but their defeat ensures the race for the league title will be decided on the final day of the season.

Newcastle had earlier defeated Cardiff 2-0 on Friday night to move to within just one point of Brighton, and crank up the pressure on their league rivals.

Having already secured automatic promotion to the Premier League, Newcastle could now add the title to their successful season with a win over Barnsley next week, provided Brighton slip up against Aston Villa.

Ahead of what could be a thrilling battle next weekend, Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to deliver their verdicts on Brighton’s shock defeat.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Brighton had their fair share of chances in the game, but their lack of cutting edge saw them register just one of their 12 shots on target.

Their poor finishing proved costly at the final whistle, going down to Josh Brownhill’s strike, minutes before the break.

Newcastle ans were given extra reason to be cheerful as Tyne-Wear derby rivals Sunderland were also relegated from the Premier League with a defeat to Bournemouth.

In other Newcastle news, Jermaine Jenas has revealed how many players Newcastle will need to buy next season.
