Newcastle fans react on Twitter to Gouffran display against Sheffield Wednesday
By Harvey Byrne
Yoan Gouffran put in a poor display for his side against Sheffield Wednesday on Monday evening – and Toon fans aired their vitriol for the attacker on Twitter.
Gouffran, 30, started on the left side of the Newcastle midfield for Rafa Benitez, playing the full 90 minutes without creating anything meaningful.
He was one of the many reasons that the famous north east side failed to score in the 1-0 defeat, which was decided by a Glenn Loovens goal.
Gouffran’s poor display was not received well by the majority of the Toon fan base on social media and many were calling for him to be subbed off.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

When people say we need to give Gouffran and Anita new contracts, games like these are why we can't! #nufc

Lacking real creativity here, Diame has been awful, Gouffran and Anita not great either changes needed #NUFC

Been some pretty poor performances so far, Diame, Gouffran, Ritchie, Colback, Dummett, Anita. Any of them could be replaced for me. #NUFC

Gouffran has played 21 times for Newcastle this season with a return of five goals and four assists.
He had struggled in his first few years in the north east after signing from Bordeaux in a £500,000 in 2013.
However, he had seemingly come into his own in the Championship under manager Rafa Benitez this campaign.
But, with poor performances like the one against Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day it is unlikely that the club will offer the player, who’s contract runs out in the summer a new deal.
In other Newcastle news, Benitez has shared his plans for January.
