‘Free pints for life’ – Newcastle fans react on Twitter as Grealish wins them title
By Danny Wright
Newcastle fans couldn’t contain their excitement as Jack Grealish’s late goal at Aston Villa earned them the Championship title.
The Magpies had just scored their third and final goal in the 3-0 win over Barnsley when the Villa attacker found the net to earn his side a point against Brighton.
Rafa Benitez and his men had to better Brighton’s result in order to win the title, and until the 89th minute, the Seagulls were top of the table.
Nathan Baker had earlier been sent off for the West Midlands club as Glenn Murray scored from the spot.
Grealish’s goal sent the Toon Army into euphoria and they took to Twitter to send their thanks to the 21-year-old – with some saying that he can have free pints for life in the city of Newcastle.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
Ayoze Perez scored the first for Newcastle against a Barnsley side that struggled to get into the game.
Chancel Mbemba, in a man of the match-worthy display, scored his first goal for the club before Gayle came off the bench to round of the straightforward victory.
Fans, players and staff awaited news from Villa Park following full time, and once news broke, it sparked rapturous scenes that St. James’ Park hasn’t seen enough of in recent times.
In other Newcastle news, Rob Elliot has highlight which Magpies players should be fearing for their St. James’ Park futures.
