Newcastle fans react on Twitter to Lansbury display for Aston Villa
By Harry Sykes
Henri Lansbury scored an own goal in Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Monday night – and Magpies fans took to Twitter to express their delight.
Lansbury has had a difficult start to his Villa career since joining in the January transfer window in a £3million move from Nottingham Forest.
The 26-year-old’s time at the Midlands giants plumbed new depths with his role in the second Newcastle goal at St James’ Park.
Lansbury was well placed on the line to keep out Jamaal Lascelles’ 59th minute goalbound header but the midfielder got his feet in a muddle and the ball squirmed embarrassingly over the line.
Newcastle fans, who had jeered the former Forest man throughout the game, roared their approval at the misfortune of a player who had been integral to their 2-1 defeat at the City Ground in December.
Many Magpies fans felt Lansbury was to blame for Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett getting sent off as Newcastle were reduced to nine men.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Shame about that Lansbury own goal, couldn’t happen to a nicer bloke… #NUFC #AVFC #SOTV

Lansbury joined Villa in the January window but has struggled to make an impact for a team which sunk to its seventh league defeat in eight matches on Monday night.
The 26-year-old, who was signed for his ability to create and score goals, has failed to either open his account or contribute an assist from six matches for his new club.
Newcastle’s win means they return to the top of the Championship as they continue their bid to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.
