Aleksandar Mitrovic scored the equaliser for Serbia in their 1-1 draw against Wales on Saturday night – and Newcastle fans took to Twitter to hail his performance.

The striker spearheaded the Serbia attack in a team that included Premier League colleagues Nemanja Matic, Branislav Ivanovic and Dusan Tadic.

Gareth Bale put Wales ahead with a trademark clinical finish for his 26th Wales goal before Mitrovic levelled the scores late on with a well placed header that went in off the post.

The Newcastle forward has now had a direct hand in six goals in his last four appearances for club and country, which includes five goals and one assist.

Newcastle fans on social media paid tribute to Mitrovic’s display, with some claiming that his performance demonstrated his calibre.
