Newcastle fans react on Twitter to Mitrovic display during Leeds stalemate
By Matt Farr
Aleksandar Mitrovic failed to hit the back of the net during Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Leeds on Friday – but fans were still pleased with his display.
The much-maligned 22-year-old has been criticised this season for his failure to influence games, but was recalled to the starting eleven against Leeds in the absence of the injured Dwight Gayle.
But the Newcastle striker gave a decent account of himself in the draw with their Championship rivals, posing as a constant nuisance to the Leeds defence with his physicality.
With Gayle also expected to miss Monday night’s clash with Ipswich, Mitrovic could be set to land back-to-back starts for only the first time since February.
Whilst venting their frustrations at Chris Wood’s last-minute equaliser for Leeds, Newcastle fans took to Twitter to commend Mitrovic for his display.

Mitrovic amazing, was as well as we've played all season. Lascelles couldn't mark his own shadow. #NUFC

Mitrovic has put in a great performance tonight not scored but made life very difficult for defenders and created space. MOTM for me. #NUFC

Most convincing #nufc have looked since the turn of the year. Even more impressed it's been without Gayle. Mitrovic superb in his absence.

Despite his display, Mitrovic is still without a goal since his strike during the 1-0 win over Wolves on February 11, which is a concerning drought for the striker.
He has just six goals and three assists to his name from 25 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle this term.
