Newcastle are reportedly lining up a bid for Manchester City defender Elaquim Mangala – and fans on Twitter aren’t quite sure what to make of the news.
The Newcastle Chronicle have reported that the Magpies will offer £12million for the 26-year-old within the next few days after he failed to impress at the Etihad following a big money move from Porto in 2014.
Mangala cost Premier League titans City a stunning £42million and they would have to settle for a fraction of the cost in return – if they were to accept Newcastle’s bid.
However his poor performances led him to moving on loan with Valencia this season and now the Magpies look like they want to rescue him from this Manchester nightmare.
His lacklustre displays in the City shirt have led to some Newcastle fans being worried by the link.
However the majority appear to be excited by the prospect of landing the Man City man, with one supporter saying it would be a “crazy signing”.
Here is a selection of their tweets:

The bigger the first signing the better will follow as it'll show that we're ambitious, so Mangala would be a great start 👌 #nufc

Thought so. I do wonder if Mangala/Semedo is one or the other. Would be great to have both though #nufc

Mangala and Semedo would be some step up from Lascelles and Clark like, who are good defenders anyway.. #NUFC

Mangala, an eight-times France international, made 33 appearances across all competitions for Valencia this season while on loan.
He scored twice, with one of his goals coming against Barcelona. However he was also sent off in that fixture which saw his side lose 4-2 at the Nou Camp.
The centre-back has made just 64 appearances for Man City in both domestic and European contests – meaning that at the moment he has cost them £650,000 per appearance following his move from Porto.
