Newcastle fans react on Twitter to Tioté display against Birmingham

By Amir Mir

Cheik Tioté made his first start for Newcastle as they drew 1-1 with Birmingham in their FA Cup clash – and fans on Twitter believe he produced an awful display.

Rafa Benitez’ side took an early lead in the first half when Daryl Murphy slotted home from a corner.

Despite not seeing the majority of the ball and having fewer chances at goal, it was the home side that equalised late into the first half.

Lukas Jutkiewicz was the scorer after he converted Jonathan Grounds’ cross after he beat Achraf Lazaar on the right-hand side.

Midfielder Tiote produced a poor display as he looked leggy, especially during the second half.

As a result, his manager decided to substitute him after 65 minutes and replaced him with Isaac Hayden.

Fans on Twitter felt that he should not have started the game as they urged the club to sell the player.

Supporters stated that the 30-year-old did not look sharp enough to produce a good enough display in a crucial cup match.

The Toon Army also questioned his midfield partner, Jack Colback, as they slammed the duo for failing to provide any energy or creativity for the team.

Overall, fans were not pleased with Tiote’s performance as they believe he is not the answer to what is a worrying area for the team.
