Howe decided to switch it up in their impressive win over title contenders Arsenal at St James’ Park, putting the 23-year-old on the right rather than his usual left-wing position.
Gordon, who is right-footed, delivered a superb assist for Alexander Isak’s winning goal, curling the ball directly onto the striker’s head.
The England international ended the game with an impressive 29 per cent cross-accuracy rate having created two chances before being hooked off in the 85th minute.
Newcastle wanted to bring in a new right winger during the summer transfer window but chose to prioritise their unsuccessful pursuit of Marc Guehi instead.
The win sees Howe’s side leapfrog Tottenham into eighth with four wins, three draws, and three defeats from their opening 10 Premier League games.
