Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to slam Dwight Gayle for his performance in the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham at Wembley on Wednesday night.
With the Magpies playing for nothing, the travelling Toon Army still managed to pack the away end at Wembley, and were treated to an inspiring opening 50 minutes before Harry Kane put Spurs ahead.
Before the England international opened the scoring, Gayle had numerous chances to break the deadlock at the other end of the pitch, with everyone in the Newcastle squad performing well except for the man that mattered most.
Newcastle supporters were furious with the ex-Crystal Palace forward for squandering so many chances at goal and took to social media to tear into the player.
One angry member of the Toon Army claimed that Gayle was “absolutely hopeless” in the capital.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
How the hell are we 10th with Gayle and Perez up front? Absolutely hopeless, constant reminder of what a miracle Rafa has achieved.

World class striker like Kane…1 chance goal…Gayle 3 chances and nothing simple… https://t.co/iO0dFedWIz

Gayle has made 36 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle this season and although he has been the go-to striker for Rafa Benitez, he has scored just five goals.
The Magpies will surely have to go out and sign a more prolific forward to help keep themselves from avoiding second-season syndrome as a hapless finisher like Gayle simply is not going to cut it in the long run.
In other Newcastle United news, the Magpies are in pole position to sign this 6ft 7in colossus who has snubbed Real Madrid and Man United.
