Newcastle fans stunned by ‘disastrous’ Alexander Isak injury blow

Newcastle United fans were left stunned when Alexander Isak was taken off at half-time against Wolves after sustaining an eye injury.

Eddie Howe’s side fought to an impressive comeback victory at Molineux, overturning Mario Lemina’s first-half strike to win 2-1 after goals from Fabian Schar and Harvey Barnes.

However, concerns emerged after Isak failed to appear for the second half following a blow to the face in the closing stages of the first 45 minutes.

Howe has since confirmed the striker suffered an issue with his eye and blurred vision, leading to his withdrawal from the game.

Anthony Gordon was moved up front to replace him, with eventual match-winner Barnes brought on in his natural position on the left-hand side.

Given the lack of a natural replacement, with Howe not placing his trust in new signing William Osula, concerns have begun to grow amongst the fans.

A frustrating transfer window left the Magpies with just Osula and the injury-prone Callum Wilson as backup to Isak, who has also struggled with his fitness in the past.

Newcastle United hit by ‘huge’ Alexander Isak injury blow

Following the striker’s withdrawal against Wolves, fans are now expressing their worry about whether he would be ruled out for any significant period.

While Howe reassured that the injury doesn’t look serious, and it seems likely he would be able to return for the clash with Fulham next week, it has done little to ease frustrations.

Taking to social media in reaction to the change, fans have insisted an injury to Isak would be a “huge” blow for the club, while others insisted they may be “cursed”.

Others questioned the availability of Wilson and whether he would be a capable backup for Isak given his consistent injury troubles.
