Newcastle United fans were left taken aback by what Nick Pope did in the pre-season friendly clash v Hull City at the MKM Stadium.
Eddie Howe’s team cruised to a 2-0 victory in the final pre-season clash before their tour of Japan where they will face Urawa Red Diamonds and Yokohama F Marinos.
Of the impressive performers on the day, Pope was singled out for praise from the supporters after returning from his lengthy injury issues last season.
The England goalkeeper missed 27 games last season after picking up a shoulder issue in December, and only made his return on the final day of the season.
However, upon his return to the starting team in pre-season, the 32-year-old reminded fans why he has been such an important part of Howe’s side.
One save, in particular, saw some impeccable reactions as he tipped an effort over the bar from close range.

Pope managed to pick up a clean sheet in the 2-0 win, with Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy on the scoresheet.
Howe hailed the performance and also singled out his goalkeeper for praise, such was the level of his display once again for the Magpies.
Supporters labelled the goalkeeper’s performance “incredible” and “outstanding”, as they expressed their delight at their first-choice keeper making his return.
