'Time to roll the dice' - Fans urge Newcastle to sign 28-goal striker after recent revelation

By Danny Wright

Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to urge Rafa Benitez to sign up Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer after being made available for a free transfer.

The Premier League have recently announced in a surprising revelation that Manchester United have decided against extending his year-long deal at Old Trafford despite scoring 28 goals in all competitions this season.

The league’s official website has the talismanic Swedish striker missing from the United retain list, meaning that he has been released by the club.

Ibrahimovic suffered a serious knee ligament injury towards the end of the season, which could have been the deciding factor in United’s decision.

Either way, his one-season stint in the Premier League has proved to be more than successful for the former Paris St. Germain star after original doubts about him being able to keep up his form across the English Channel.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Ibrahimovic made 46 total appearances during his season-long stay at Old Trafford, scoring 28 goals and supplying ten assists.

He scored 17 of his goals in the Premier League as United finished in sixth place.
