Newcastle get new Joao Pedro boost after Brighton fall-out

Joao Pedro’s behind-the-scenes fall-out at Brighton will play into Newcastle United’s hands this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Pedro, 23, is high on the shortlist at St James’ Park as they look to add competition and cover for superstar striker Alexander Isak.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (10 June) that Brighton are looking for bids of £50-60million if they are to sell the Brazil international striker.

However, sources say the forward’s training ground fallout could give Newcastle a boost in their pursuit of the Seagulls star – who is keen to play Champions League football and is ready to leave the south coast club.

Pedro keen to play Champions League football

He was excluded from the squad for Brighton‘s final day clash against Tottenham after clashing with teammate Jan Paul van Hecke in training.

“There are principles that are non-negotiable and count for everyone – that everyone has to stick to – where we don’t make any compromises,” Fabian Hurzeler said following the incident.

Pedro hit 10 goals and notched seven assists in 30 games for Brighton in the 2024-25 campaign.

The forward, who cost £30million when he joined from Watford in 2023, has scored 30 goals on the south coast – with 19 of those strikes coming in the Premier League.

His contract at the Amex Stadium runs until June 2028.

Newcastle could land Kudus for £65m

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (31 May) that West Ham are ready to accept a bid of between £65-70million for Newcastle target Mohammed Kudus.

The Ghana international has a £85million release clause for Premier League clubs but interested sides will not part with that figure to land the ex-Ajax man.

Kudus’ stock has dropped in European football after a below-par 2024-25 campaign which saw him score just five goals across all competitions.
