Newcastle insider drops exciting transfer hint following Yoane Wissa breakthrough

Newcastle United could make more transfer deadline day signings after agreeing a deal with Brentford for Yoane Wissa.

On Monday, 1 September, Newcastle agreed terms with Brentford to sign Wissa, who excelled in the Premier League for the Bees.

Last season, the striker notched a strong return of 19 goals and four assists in 35 top-flight outings for Brentford, and should be a good asset for the Magpies.

Contrastingly, Alexander Isak is set to join Liverpool from Newcastle, having fired the North East side to Carabao Cup glory last term.

Newcastle eye more transfers after agreeing Yoane Wissa deal

As well as acquiring Wissa from Brentford, Newcastle have also signed striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart.

The 23-year-old scored 17 goals for the Bundesliga club last season, before performing well for Germany in the Under-21 European Championships.

Meanwhile, the i Paper’s Northern Football Correspondent, Mark Douglas, reported via X on 1 September: “Yoane Wissa now at NUFC training ground for medical after deal agreed!

“Fee is around £50million (debate over exactly how it’s structured). I think it’s a huge signing in context of the season.

“NUFC still working on other things.”

Eddie Howe needs more strength in depth

Football Insider verdict

While Newcastle have eased the blow of losing Isak to Liverpool by signing both Wissa and Woltemade, supporters will be pleased that Howe’s side are not stopping there.

The Magpies haven’t started the season well

After qualifying for the Champions League last season, the Magpies face a tough task as they vie to achieve success both in Europe and in the Premier League.

When Newcastle competed in the Champions League in the 2023/24 season, they finished bottom of their group, facing tough encounters with Borussia Dortmund, PSG, and AC Milan.

The North East side will be desperate to perform better in Europe this time around, while they face tough ties against sides like Barcelona and PSG in the league phase.

Therefore, before the transfer window closes at 7pm on 1 September, Newcastle must acquire as much strength in depth as possible to remain competitive in the Premier League, as well as performing well in the Champions League.
