Newcastle insider rips into ‘boastful’ Anthony Gordon – ‘I can’t remember him playing good’
Anthony Gordon is in the midst of poor form and has come in for criticism following Newcastle’s latest defeat at West Ham.
Despite Jacob Murphy’s early goal, West Ham beat Newcastle 3-1 to earn their first win under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Newcastle remain winless on their travels in the Premier League this season, with Eddie Howe’s side languishing in 13th in the table.
Before the international break, the Toon travel to Brentford looking to end their eight games winless run on the road in the league.

Anthony Gordon blasted for poor form
Speaking on the Football Daily, [3 November], the Daily Telegraph’s Northern Football Writer, Luke Edwards, launched a scathing verdict on Gordon’s season.
“I feel like it has been coming for a while,” Edwards said.
“He was taken off at half-time [against West Ham], he is England’s Anthony Gordon he talks about himself in that way, he boasts when he plays in the Champions League, and he has been good in the Champions League, he was absolutely brilliant against Benfica.
“He gives these interviews afterwards where he boasts that ‘I’m a big game player, I’m here for the big nights, these bring out the best in me‘.
“I’m afraid if you’re an elite player you also go and back that up in the sort of lesser fixtures and he hasn’t for too long, I can’t remember the last time Anthony Gordon played well away from home, maybe the Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal in February earlier this year.

“He has got no goals or no assists in 19 Premier League games, that’s an England international winger who is supposed to be one of Newcastle’s key men.
“I can’t remember him playing good away from home for a long time, he seems to need the home crowd to give him a lift.
“I think Newcastle should be expecting a lot more from Anthony Gordon and I think if he wants to be a top player and he talks about himself being a top player then you have to do that consistently you don’t just do that in the glamour evenings in the Champions League or against Arsenal or against Liverpool or in those headline fixtures, I would say he hasn’t been doing it for more than a year.
“Last season I thought he was poor and I think his inconsistency has carried on into this season as well.“
Gordon was sent off against Liverpool early in the season when Howe was struggling for forward options before Newcastle signed Nick Woltemade and has not been able to contribute goals or assists in the Premier League so far.

Newcastle faltering in bottom half of the table
Howe must have growing concerns over Gordon’s performances, and summer arrival Anthony Elanga has also been unable to hit form this season.
In the Premier League, Newcastle are just five points above the relegation zone when the club will expect qualification for Europe at the end of the campaign.
Yoane Wissa’s injury problems has not helped share the goal scoring burden from Woltemade, and Howe will be boosted by his return after the international break.
Another poor performance at Brentford though will only bring greater scrutiny on Howe and Gordon.
