Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been made available for a loan move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, according to a report.
The Telegraph claims that Newcastle have the 21-year-old, who is yet to earn a substantial amount of senior football in his budding career, on their radar but could be facing some competition.
It is understood that newly-promoted Brighton are also interested in snapping up the young playmaker from Chelsea this summer as they prepare for the first Premier League campaign of their history.
Loftus-Cheek made just 11 first-team appearances for Newcastle’s Premier League rivals Chelsea last season, failing to start a single match in the English top-flight.
Ever since breaking through the academy at the London club, the 17-times England Under-21 international has only played 32 times in the first-team and has never spent a period out on loan to develop his skills in top competitive surroundings.
Atsu has already secured his permanent switch to St. James’ Park while Ake has recently joined Bournemouth.
The development in the latest report is that Chelsea have now loan-listed Loftus-Cheek, who could certainly serve a purpose in Benitez’s midfield next term.
Football Insider Verdict
Benitez could be steadily growing more annoyed by the lack of progress he has made in this summer’s transfer window, but Chelsea making Loftus-Cheek available for loan should certainly speed up this potential deal. The 21-year-old needs to earn more experience and he isn’t going to do that in a team that is so reluctant to give academy products a first-team chance. Loftus-Cheek is the epitome of a major flaw in the system at Stamford Bridge and he is going to be better off leaving the place all together as he clearly has no future there. Newcastle fans will hope he comes good at St. James’ Park if a deal comes to fruition and a permanent move could follow.
In other Newcastle news, the Magpies have made an emphatic decision on the future of this 20-year-old.
