Newcastle are interested in signing Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs, according to a report.
The Daily Mirror claim that Rafael Benitez is keen on bringing the 27-year-old to St James’ Park and feels he would add great experience to the squad.
It is understood Arsenal would be prepared to sell the left-back for around £15million after he fell behind Nacho Monreal in the pecking order last season.
The report details that Benitez wants to step up Newcastle’s business in the transfer window following their return to the top flight.
The Magpies are planning for life back in the Premier League after clinching the Championship title.

They do already have Paul Dummet as their first-choice left-back, but it appears they want Gibbs to provide further competition in the squad.
Gibbs is an experienced full-back that has racked up 229 appearances for Arsenal, while also picking up 10 senior international caps for England.
Football Insider verdict:
Newcastle need to bring in proven Premier League players in the summer and Gibbs certainly fits that criteria. The left-back is an established top-flight player and would bring good experience to the squad. The 27-year-old may be viewed as slightly over priced at £15million, but that is expected for an English player. He is blessed with blistering pace and has great work-rate up and down the left flank. Gibbs should seriously consider a move away from Arsenal if they receive a bid for him. The left-back has seen his career stagnate at the Emirates Stadium recently and he should force a move to get back into the plans of Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
In other Newcastle transfer news, they want to offload midfielder Henri Saivet in the summer.
