Newcastle: Lewis Hall ‘Player of the Year’ verdict reached as star ‘keen to stay’

Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall wants to remain at the club despite rumours of an exit this summer.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Hall has also put himself in contention to be named in England’s World Cup squad.

Chelsea are among the clubs who could explore a move for Hall in the summer transfer window thanks to his impressive performances at left-back this season.

Hall, who came through the academy at Chelsea, has nailed down the left-back position in the Newcastle team, starting 18 Premier League matches this season.

Newcastle will not be keen to lose star players in the summer window, but Eddie Howe’s side will not have Champions League football on offer at St James’ Park next season.

Newcastle told to keep ‘fabulous’ Lewis Hall

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – thinks Hall should be named Newcastle’s player of the season.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes the Toon should build their team around the 21-year-old.

Lewis Hall: 25/26 Season Audit Elite Potential
Defensive Metric Premier League Stats
Minutes Played 1,662
Ball Recoveries 106 (Squad High)
Tackles Won 46
Interceptions 24
England Squad Probability 88% (via Opta)

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “To me, he’s been the player of the season at St James’. I think he’s been fabulous.

“I thought he played really well in the first leg against Barcelona against Lamine Yamal and that was an exact symbol for England, if anything else, of the quality that he’s got. So yes, he would be an absolutely crucial one, and I think he’d be keen to stay longer at St James’ Park.

“But he is a key player and certainly one that you’d want to build around. It’s difficult to build around that position, but nevertheless, he’d be one of the regulars that you’d put in your squad and I think for England as well in the World Cup he could do very well, but yes he’s been the player of the year for me in the North East.”

Newcastle receive boost to sign Monaco star

Sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle target Lamine Camara could leave Monaco at the end of the season.

Newcastle have begun scouting the 22-year-old ahead of a possible move in the summer to add to their midfield options.

Howe may need a replacement for Sandro Tonali, with the midfielder linked with a move to Manchester United.
