Newcastle, Liverpool stars react to Castagne’s ‘struggles’ update at Fulham

Newcastle ace Harvey Barnes and Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard reacted to a new update from Fulham defender Timothy Castagne on social media.

The Whites had been enjoying a brilliant season, and European football seemed like a near certainty for the West London side.

But after a series of disappointing results, including letting slip a lead against rivals Chelsea to lose 2-1, Fulham are in danger of finishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

There are concerns that Marco Silva could be heading to Tottenham or Al Hilal this summer, agitations that will only be exacerbated if the Cottagers fail to qualify for Europe.

And to make matters worse, one of their most consistent performers in the last few seasons in Castagne is set for an extended spell on the side-lines.

Timothy Castagne undergoes ankle surgery

Castagne posted an image on Instagram alerting Fulham fans to the fact that he would be spending a spell on the sidelines, captioned: “Happy the surgery went well. I’ve struggled with tears in my ankle for 4 months now. I’ve tried my best to continue but it was getting worse.

“Tough to leave the team and miss national team in such an important time. Looking forward to being finally myself next season!”

The post was then liked by former Leicester teammate Barnes and international teammate Trossard, showing their support for the 29-year-old.

Fulham turn to transfer market to fix right-back issues

Football Insider Verdict

For the last couple of years at Craven Cottage, right-back has been a position of strenghth.

Castagne has proven himself a fantastic attacking wingback, whilst Kenny Tete has consistently been one of the best defensive fullbacks in the Premier League.

However, the Belgian’s injury, combined with fitness issues and poor form suffered by the Whites’ Dutch right-back, means the Cottagers may need to add to the position this summer.

Fulham wanted to add another right-back to their squad in January, but potential recruits were concerned that the duo were going to limit their path to first-team football.

But that has now changed. Fulham are interested in Ipswich’s Ben Johnson, and Kyle Walker-Peters may also be an option, with the former Tottenham man out of contract at Southampton in the summer.
