Newcastle United are locked in a bitter battle with West Ham to sign Brentford right-winger Jota this month, according to a report.
The Mirror claim that the Magpies manager Rafa Benitez is interested in signing the 26-year-old to add greater cutting edge to his side.
The newspaper report that Spaniard Benitez is trying to convince his countryman to move to St James’ Park this season as he believes the attacker has the potential to become a household name on Tyneside.
Jota is regarded as one of the outstanding players outside of the top flight after his excellent form in the second half of last season.
He scored 12 goals and supplied five assists in 21 Championship appearances following his return in January from an 18-month loan spell at La Liga outfit Eibar that was abruptly ended after the second-tier club exercised their recall option.

He made just seven appearances for Eibar in the first half of the 2016/17 campaign, but had no such struggles with Brentford as he averaged more than a goal every other game in the Championship.
Jota has a contract with the London club that runs until next summer but his future is in doubt due to his calibre demonstrated in 69 league appearances that have yielded 23 goals and eight assists.
In other Newcastle United transfer news, Benitez holds talks with this Premier League defender as Magpies hope to seal another signing.
