‘Newcastle make Alexander Isak transfer decision after £100m development’

Alexander Isak continues to attract interest in the Premier League and beyond following his stellar form for trophy-winning Newcastle United this season.

Isak‘s reputation at St James’ Park has gone from strength to strength following his club-record move from Real Sociedad in 2022.

Netting 27 goals in all competitions this season has further strengthened his standing as one of the top strikers in Europe.

In the Premier League Golden Boot race for the 2024-25 campaign, the 25-year-old was runner-up to Mohamed Salah – and scored more goals than the likes of Erling Haaland, Ollie Watkins and Cole Palmer.

Arsenal identified the ex-Dortmund striker as their top priority for the summer window as far back as January, Liverpool were keen – while Newcastle’s recent pursuit of Liam Delap added a further layer of intrigue.

However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has given Newcastle fans a positive update on Isak’s future.

Isak set to stay at Newcastle after Champions League boost

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed a place in next season’s Champions League will be enough to keep Isak on Tyneside for another season at least.

A further cash injection thanks to their place at European football’s top table should also help stave off any worries surrounding Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) at St. James’ Park.

Wyness told Football Insider: “Champions League qualification was very important for Newcastle.

“They had been close on PSR, as well as needing the funding to keep growing and improving the squad.

“I expect Alexander Isak to stay now that Newcastle have got Champions League football (next season).

“It’s a big relief. They only did it on goal difference, but it’s a blessing.

“I think it could mean up to £100million, and a base level of £60-70m for them. That’s the amount of money they needed to push on, and it’s looking rosy for them going forward.”

Pope set to stay and fight for Newcastle place

Meanwhile, Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope’s preference is to remain at the club this summer – even if James Trafford joins the club, sources have told Football Insider.

Pope, 33, has been widely linked with a move to newly-promoted Leeds United.

However, sources say the England international shot-stopper wants to remain at St. James’ Park and fight for a first-choice berth next season.

It is also believed there is no guarantee Trafford will join the Magpies, with Burnley set to drive a hard bargain for his signature.
