‘Newcastle make Marc Guehi transfer decision’: ‘Big concern’
Newcastle have been chasing Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi for some time now, and a decision has been made regarding the defender’s proposed switch to St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe’s side secured Champions League football, despite losing 1-0 to Everton on the final day of the Premier League season.
A controversial refereeing error in Aston Villa’s clash with Manchester United meant Unai Emery’s side were beaten at Old Trafford, helping the Magpies hang on to fifth place.
Newcastle are back among Europe’s elite after a one-year hiatus from the competition, and will feel that they can reach the knockout stages this time around due to the revamped format.

Newcastle decide on Guehi move
Newcastle had strong interest in Guehi last summer, but a move never materialised with the centre back staying in South London.
The England international helped the Eagles win their first-ever major trophy, as Oliver Glasner’s side beat Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup Final.

However, with just one year left on his contract, Guehi is set to leave Crystal Palace this summer, with Steve Parish unwilling to risk losing his star man on a free.
According to The Times (29 May) Northern Sports Correspondent Martin Hardy though, Newcastle are unlikely to sign the Palace defender due to concerns over the size of the fee.
Hardy added that the competition from Chelsea and Liverpool for Guehi’s signature reduces the Magpies’ chances further.

Newcastle set to build
Football Insider Verdict
Despite seemingly missing out on securing the services of Guehi for a second summer on the bounce, Newcastle will have to improve their squad to capitalise on reaching the Champions League.
Before any incomings, the first thing on the agenda is to ensure that their key players remain at St James’ Park for next season, with the big clubs circling.
Alexander Isak has attracted the interest of Arsenal, while Anthony Gordon is on the radar of Liverpool, and Howe’s side will be desperate to keep hold of both.
The Magpies have a couple of positions where improvement is needed, most notably on the right-hand side of the front three, as well as centre back.
If Newcastle can address the deficiencies in their starting lineup, as well as add some depth to their squad, then they will be in a good position to push on and challenge in multiple competitions next season.
