Newcastle may have just found the perfect striker to rival Nick Woltemade

When Newcastle United sold Alexander Isak to Liverpool this summer, there were concerns surrounding their firepower. However, only months into his career on Tyneside, Nick Woltemade has solved that problem.

Newcastle signed Woltemade for around £69million from Stuttgart, and while some strikers can take some time to find their feet in the Premier League, the 23-year-old has already hit the ground running.

Woltemade matched Alan Shearer’s record after scoring in Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest before the international break, his third goal in four top-flight matches.

As a result, supporters are already growing to adore the big striker and are confident he can fire them to glory, but there is always chance another will be added to the mix.

Newcastle have scouted Brentford striker Igor Thiago

On Saturday, 11 October, it was revealed that Newcastle have scouted Brentford striker Igor Thiago after his stunning start to the campaign.

The Brazilian has plundered four goals in seven Premier League games this term and is finally showing the Bees why they paid £30m for him in 2024.

Thiago, who has been dubbed ‘powerful’ by Keith Andrews, was instrumental during Brentford’s 3-1 win over Manchester United at the end of September.

Newcastle currently have three strikers at their disposal, including Woltemade and William Osula, although new signing Yoane Wissa is currently out injured.

But it’s clear to see why they’re eyeing Thiago as a possible fourth striker, with the 24-year-old capable of challenging Woltemade for a place in the starting lineup.

What Thiago would bring to Newcastle

Thiago is one of the Premier League’s most clinical centre-forwards, displaying ruthless efficiency in front of goal when chances arise.

7 matches
4 goals
33% goal conversion
1 big chance created
1.7 shots per game
1.3 tackles per game

The Brentford marksman has an array of finishes in his locker, including long-range strikes, headers and close-range conversions.

Newcastle could benefit from having someone of Thiago’s ilk to rival Woltemade up top, with Osula struggling and Wissa showcasing an alternate striker profile.

The key to any striker becoming the best is having someone just as good to push them, and having watched him dominate defenders this term, Thiago would certainly be a smart signing for the Toon.
