Newcastle must be concerned as damning Nick Woltemade stat emerges from Germany

Newcastle United should be worried by Nick Woltemade’s poor performance for Germany in their 2-0 loss to Slovakia.

While Eddie Howe’s former star striker – Alexander Isak – joined Liverpool, the North East side bolstered their forward line by signing Woltemade from Stuttgart.

The 23-year-old scored 17 goals in 33 appearances for his former club last term before starring for Germany in the summer’s Under-21 European Championships.

Meanwhile, Newcastle appointed David Hopkinson as their new Chief Executive Officer on Thursday, 4 September.

Newcastle should be worried as Nick Woltemade struggles in Germany defeat

As well as securing their move for Woltemade, Newcastle signed Yoane Wissa from Brentford as they vie to succeed in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Woltemade’s performances for Stuttgart last season show that he has the potential to succeed at St James’ Park this season.

However, as per FotMob, the 23-year-old had the fewest touches of any player to feature for 90 minutes as Germany were beaten 2-0 by Slovakia on 4 September.

The Newcastle new boy also mustered just three shots, which should concern the St James’ Park side, who want him to fill Isak’s boots.

Eddie Howe must oversee an upturn in form

Amid the previous transfer saga surrounding Isak, Howe’s men have earned just two points in the Premier League so far this term, thanks to their goalless draws with Aston Villa and Leeds United, either side of their 3-2 home defeat to Liverpool.

Newcastle have started the season poorly

But now that Newcastle have successfully acquired stars like Jacob Ramsey, as well as refreshing their forward line, they must establish a strong run of form once the domestic action returns after the international break.

In their next Premier League encounter, the Tyneside outfit face a Wolves side who have endured three consecutive defeats in the top flight.

Earning a win over Vitor Pereira’s men on 13 September is a vital step for Newcastle to take to ensure that they head into their Champions League clash with La Liga giants Barcelona with momentum on their side.

Meanwhile, Howe needs Woltemade to perform significantly better than the poor form he displayed for Germany against Slovakia.
