Newcastle United need to fill out their squad ahead of a second season back in the top flight and must have the ambition of looking up rather than down.
The Magpies have the perfect manager at the helm in Rafael Benitez to oversee them establishing themselves as Premier League regulars again and they need to back him in the transfer window.
They should consider splashing out on some attacking talents to possess a more attacking, while reinforcing the defensive options with some smart signings would also help.
The Daily Mail reports that Fulham are prepared to trigger a £2million release clause for Cardiff City defender Joe Bennett, with both clubs involved preparing for next season in the Premier League after their promotion.
It is understood that the 28-year-old has a £2million release clause at Welsh outfit Cardiff and Fulham are prepared to reignite their interest in him.
However, Newcastle should be all over this deal and try to hijack it to bring the English full-back to St James’ Park.
Bennett is available at an incredible £2million despite Cardiff’s desire to keep him and he could be the player to compete with Paul Dummett in the Newcastle XI.
Dummett is the first-choice left-back for the Magpies and needs some healthy competition ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
Bennett is a left-sided flyer that loves to bomb forward and managed four assists during Cardiff’s promotion from the Championship.
His previous experience in the top flight with Aston Villa combined with his tenacious approach would see him be a good squad player at Newcastle, while £2million is hardly going to make a dent in Benitez’s spending kitty.
In the latest Newcastle United transfer news, they are in talks to offload their powerhouse defender.
