Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez absolutely must sign a new attacking midfielder in the summer transfer window.
While Ayoze Perez may have been the hero against Huddersfield last week, the Spaniard is by no means a long-term option in the No 10 role so it is a position that the Magpies must invest in over the summer if Benitez has the funding to do so.
If Mike Ashley stumps up some cash or Amanda Staveley completes a takeover at St James’ Park then Newcastle must join the race to sign Atalanta and Italy midfielder Bryan Cristante.
The two-times Italy international has scored 11 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions this term and completely obliterated Premier League club Everton in the group stages of the Europa League before Christmas, scoring three times against them in two games.
Cristante’s best years are still ahead of him and he would make a great long-term addition to the team as Newcastle look to start building their way up the Premier League standings.
The ex-Benfica midfielder has proved that he can perform against the best sides as well having found the net against the likes of Juventus and Napoli this term, which means that teams like Manchester City, Manchester United or Liverpool will not daunt him in the slightest.
