Newcastle owners told to go ‘all-out’ in January after source reveals worrying Trippier news – pundit

Frank McAvennie has told Newcastle to go “all-out” in their bid to lure top talent to the club this January.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to a fresh twist in Newcastle’s hunt for Kieran Trippier.

Newcastle have been working on a deal to make the Atletico Madrid right-back a marquee signing and this site revealed on 15 December that talks were underway.

However, on Thursday (23 December) Football Insider was told by a Newcastle source that talks have stalled due to Trippier’s £120,000-per-week wage demands.

McAvennie insists Newcastle will have to pay a premium for top talent as they look to turn the club’s fortunes around.

“Look at where Newcastle are, they have to go all-out in January,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They have the money to do that, we all know that. Just pay whatever anyone wants for their players.

“Pay the money and worry about the consequences later. They need to spend the money Ashley should have been spending over the last 10 years.

“Add all of that up and you have how much Newcastle need to spend to pay up.

“It’s going to be so hard for them. They have to pay more than anyone else anyway because clubs know they have the money.

“You want to see committed owners so I expect Newcastle to go all out and try to keep the club up.

“They won’t want a relegation as the first thing on their CV.”
