Newcastle plan to accept Kieran Trippier offer – Transfer expert
Newcastle United will look to cash in on Kieran Trippier in the January transfer window as they attempt to cut their wage bill.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the club have been open to selling the right-back since the summer.
This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed that the Magpies will entertain offers for Trippier this winter, and agents have been alerted to his availability.
At 34 years old, there is a feeling at St James’ Park that his time as a regular fixture in Eddie Howe’s team has come to an end.
So far this season, he has made just six league appearances and has been displaced from the starting XI by Tino Livramento, who made his England debut in November.
Trippier’s current contract is set to expire in 2026, but it has been said that the club are willing to cut ties ahead of time in a last-ditch attempt to raise funds.
It has been said that the club are planning to reinvest the money raised from his sale into the squad as they look to bolster Howe’s side for the second half of the season.
Newcastle United plan to accept Kieran Trippier offers in January
Trippier is one of Newcastle’s highest earners, with Anthony Gordon’s new contract bring him level on the the joint-highest wage of £140,000 per week.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after spending over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the club are planning to slash their wage bill and reinvest elsewhere.
“I’m told they’ve been looking to move him on since the summer,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s been a really good leader for them and a good presence as part of the squad, but he’s not part of their first-team plans any more.
“The thing is, time catches up with everybody, so he’s picked up little knocks and made errors which he wasn’t making before and that can be a concern.
“He’s 34 years old now, so there is a feeling that his time as a regular for a top side is coming to and end.
“Newcastle have also been looking to cut their wage bill, and he’s one of their highest earners.

“I don’t know how much money they’d be able to bring in for him at his age, but getting his wages off the bill is seen as an important step so that they can be reinvested elsewhere.“
