Newcastle player ratings v Birmingham: Trio get 3/10
By Amir Mir
Football Insider rates the Newcastle players out of ten following their 1-1 draw with Birmingham in the FA Cup.
Matz Sels 4 – Showed signs of uncertainty, especially in the first half as he was unable to deal with crosses into the box.
DeAndre Yedlin 6 – He could have done more after the break, but he did look lively when going forward. Overall, like his team, it was a flat performance.
Jamaal Lascelles 5 – Should have dealt with the cross that was delivered for the first goal, else he had a quite game.
Grant Hanley 5 – Just like Lascelles he didn’t have much to do in a poor display from the team.

Massadio Haidara 5 – Didn’t make too much of an impact, nor did he cause any problems. Perhaps he was not sharp enough to play at his best, he was substituted midway through the second half.
Vurnon Anita 4 – Another player who seemed to drift off in a poor game, needs to learn to keep hold of possession a lot more.
Jack Colback 3 – Another poor display from the midfielder who fails to provide any defensive or attacking threat to the team.
Cheick Tioté 3 – His first start for the Magpies this season and it showed in his performance. He didn’t make much of an impact during the first period and drifted off after the break before being substituted.
Achraf Lazaar 3 – A fringe player who failed to show his manager why he should be selected as a regular. Didn’t do enough and was at fault for the first goal.
Daryl Murphy 5 – Did very well to take his goal but went missing thereafter. Perhaps needed a runner, like Dwight Gayle around him to bring more out of him.
Aleksandar Mitrovic 6 – Taken off on a stretcher after ten minutes with what looked like a worrying injury.
Yoan Gouffran 5 (for Mitrovic, 10)
Isaac Hayden 4 (for Tioté, 65)
Matt Ritchie 5 (for Haidara, 69)
In other Newcastle news, Don Hutchison believes these three signings would take the Magpies to the next level.
