Newcastle player ratings v Brentford: Attacker is 4/10

By Dominic Toner

Football Insider rates the Newcastle players after their 2-1 victory against Brentford in the Championship on Saturday.

Karl Darrow 7 – The goalkeeper made several top saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep his side in the game, frustrating attacker Lasse Vibe on a couple of occasions. Was at fault for Brentford’s equaliser to make it 1-1 as his punch from a corner wasn’t strong enough.

DeAndre Yedlin 6 – The right-back supported the attack well and managed to put some good crosses in from the wing.

Jamaal Lascelles 5 – The Newcastle captain failed to organise his defence properly and looked nervous in defence.

Ciaran Clark 7 – He looked the more assured of the centre-backs with a number of clearances, including a late one in stoppage time.

Paul Dummett 5 – The full-back tried to get forward, but lacked end product and could be fighting for his place in the starting XI.

Isaac Hayden 7 – The central midfielder was composed in possession and did a good job in the middle. Unfortunately he was forced off with an injury in the second-half.

Jack Colback 5 -The combative midfielder was sloppy on the ball and struggled for the most part. Had a hand though in the winning goal as he retained possession in the build-up.

Matt Ritchie 5 – The winger tried to creative for his team-mates, but was lacking the final ball in this game.

Ayoze Perez 7 – The attacker was heavily involved in the game and started several Newcastle attacks. He did miss a good opportunity by firing straight at the goalkeeper in the first-half, but made up for that by assisting Daryl Murphy’s winning goal.

Yoan Gouffran 4 – The attacker struggled to make an impact on the game and had no notable moments in front of goal. Had to play on through the pain late on as Newcastle had no substitutes remaining.

Dwight Gayle 7 – The striker was a real threat when he was on the pitch, with his pace on the counter attack too much for Brentford. He opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a great left footed striker from a tight ankle. Was forced off though in the first-half with a suspected knee injury.

Daryl Murphy (for Gayle 28mins) 7

Vurnon Anita (for Hayden 62mins) 6

Grant Hanley (for Anita 72mins) 6
