Newcastle player ratings v Bristol City: 26-year-old gets 3/10 after nervous display
By Will Butcher
Football Insider rates the Newcastle players out of 10 after their 2-2 draw against Bristol City at St. James’ Park on Saturday.
Karl Darlow 3 – Shocking performance. Seemingly nervous from last week’s Norwich blunder, the 26-year-old was at fault for City’s second, remaining on edge and putting his side in danger throughout the match.
DeAndre Yedlin – 5 Caught out of position and on his heels at times, but is lucky to possess the pace to recover on the right side of defence. A lot to learn on this showing, though.
Ciaran Clark – 6 Switched off during City’s opener, as Aaron Wilbraham scored a diving header, but made up for it by scoring the Toon’s equaliser.
Jamaal Lascelles – 5 A stark contrast to his form in the first half of the season, the Toon captain has allowed nerves to creep in to his performances. Shaky and second best to most aerial duels.

Paul Dummett – 4 Major communication error with Darlow for the Robins’ second, giving David Cotterill a simple tap in.
Jonjo Shelvey – 7 Only Toon player to offer any kind of enthusiasm. Scored the Toon’s first goal with a deflected effort, but looked to make things happen all afternoon.
Jack Colback – 4 No impact with his passing. Constantly caught taking the easy route out by passing backwards, which meant that the Toon’s defence had to produce a harder ball to find the attackers. Offered nothing.
Matt Ritchie – 6 An average performance from the former Bournemouth winger, but a lot better than the majority of his teammates. Tested City’s resolve with a number of well-struck, long-range efforts.
Ayoze Perez – 5 Guilty of giving the ball away multiple times for the Toon in attacking areas, as Rafa Benitez’s decision to include the Spaniard backfired.
Christian Atsu – 7 Got to the byline on a number of occasions with his eye-catching dribbling ability but failed to provide the required cutting edge.
Aleksander Mitrovic – 5 Little service, but guilty of failing to make the most out of the chances that fell his way. Fell over too easily under the challenge of Aden Flint, allowing a chance to go begging.
Mohamed Diame (On for Colback, 58 mins) 6
Yoann Gouffran (On for Ritchie, 79 mins) 7
